Fitness Geeks Rejoice: the Ultimate Body Computer

Thirty-two times a second, a wearable computer called the Bodybugg collects a range of body measurements, including the skin’s electrical resistance and temperature, while an accelerometer monitors body motion. Wait, it gets better. As this piece in the New York Times reports, the data is downloaded wirelessly to your computer, which then sends it over the Internet to the Bodybugg’s maker, a company called BodyMedia. Computers there analyze the numbers and, through a Web interface, create charts showing things like the difference between your calorie intake and your burn rate. Yikes, you’re thinking, you really have to want to know a lot about your body to buy one of those. And we haven’t even told you the the device is only sold only as part of a package of training sessions at fitness centers. Yes, it’s true. Read more about it here.
