Fashion Biz Makes Adjustments to Fit the Fit

Once upon a time, women of a certain age were expected to dress themselves in clothing of an uncertain shape and an unfathomable size. Not any more. The Wall Street Journal reports on efforts of the fashion industry to meet the demands of women over 40 whose bodies look like they are under 30, and who don’t mind if other people know it. The Gap is reportedly ready to reveal the product of a “top secret” plan to tap the new market, and Liz Claiborne Inc.’s Dana Buchman line is slimming jackets and shortening tops. What did it take to pry the attention of the fashion industry away from teens and twenty-somethings? The Journal tells us that last year boomer women spent $27 billion on clothes. That should do it.
