Eating Breakfast Keeps You Thin

People who think of breakfast as a bowl full of unnecessary calories will have to think again, now that a Maryland Medical Research Institute study found that girls and young women who eat breakfast are generally slimmer than those who did not. The Boston Globe reports that the study, which tracked 2,400 people for ten years, found that breakfast eaters had, on average,
a body mass index  0.7 units lower than breakfast skippers, and breakfast eaters who included cereal in the meal had a body mass index that was 1.65 units lower. One reason for that, researchers suggest, is that those who skipped breakfast tended to eat foods with higher fat content later in the day. Another reason, Geezer suggests, is that, as the Globe points out, the  research was funded in part by General Mills. Read more.
