Even With The Best Gut Microbes, Healthy Diet Required
Even the best gut microbes in the world aren’t enough to keep you thin. But fresh fruits and vegetable are. That lesson comes from researchers at Washington University in St. Louis, who experimented not with humans, but mice. A Washington University news release reports that a new study shows that altering the microbial mix in mouse intestines prevents mice destined for obesity from gaining weight, but there’s a caveat: Microbes associated with leanness can’t take up residence in mice with “obese” gut microbes unless the animals eat a healthy diet.
